RaYa One Shot : The colors of love ...
Priya was leaving the room after ordering him to smear gulaal on her. It was her first Holi in that house, the first with him. It was a ritual that she had seen her parents following on the festival of colors, that her father used to put gulaal on her mother and then her parents used to color others. All she wished was to follow the same ritual with her man. And somewhere knew that her stubborn yet obedient husband won't disappoint her. Ram was left helpless and perplexed. On one hand he was yet to comprehend on the intense happenings of last night and on the other he had to follow his wife's commands as well.
He stole glances at her retreating frame, "you're impossible, Priya" he spoke to himself. Holding the door, she turned back to say, "jaldi aaiyega, Aapko mujhe rang bhi lagaana hai." Saying this she left the room. After a few minutes, he crawled up and sat with the support of the head rest, covering himself completely with the comforter. Although he was all alone in the room but still he was feeling shy remembering the night's ecstasy. He smiled sheepishly, closing his eyes thought of his wife. His smile deepened on the thoughts of how the room was glowing in flickering candle light, how the breeze swayed the curtains and the way, beauty of the moon witnessed the unison of the lovers. He opened his eyes after sometime and looked around, what beautiful mess had they created out of the room. Their clothes found their place on the floor, pillows were kissing the surface of the room, her bangles were on the side table. Seeing the half burnt candles, wax all around, he smiled timidly.
"Jesus Christ, what if someone sees our room in this condition? I need to clean everything oh god, warna wo hitler Bansi kaka ko bhej degi." He thought and slowly crawled out of the bed. With the upper sheet wrapped around him that covered him right from his neck to his legs, he first ran to the door, bolted it and then scurried towards the washroom.
To his surprise there was a sticky note on the door of the washroom. By now he was familiar with her handwriting. His smile broadened as he read the message,
* Dear Mr Kapoor, thank you for last night, and for everything that you have been doing for the last six months. Life wasn't the same when I lived it all alone. You've filled all the voids and completed me. Thank you for celebrating me, celebrating us. You make me a happy woman. Now I can proudly say that I belong to you, I am a part of your life. I love you. I really really do. *
Finding such an unexpected surprise from his wife, he was left amazed. "I love you too Priya. You make me believe that someone needs me in her life, the way I do." His eyes glistened with fulfilment.
After getting freshen up, he stood in front of the dressing table cladded in a white kurta, doing his hair.
There was a wide grin that looked plastered on his chubby face as it had refused to leave. There was a time, when Priya was the woman he could never think of getting married to, was now the woman, without whom, he never wished to imagine even a moment.
He found another note stuck on the cupboard..."One more..." he giggled and read it..
*I know you don't like colours. Neha ne bataya tha ke aapne kabhi holi nahi kheli ! To kya hua? Pehle to main bhi pasand nahi thi aapko. And ab dekhiye, Roadside nimbu paani morning walks. Ye Middle class Priya. sab pasand hai aapko.. To fir, no excuses! When you come down, I need you to colour me first.. And I trust you completely, you won't disappoint me*
"Areey yaar kya hai ye! Mujhse nahi hoga ye sab. Akele mein hota to bhi I would have given it a thought but neeche kitne log honge, Koi dekh lega to? Mujhse nahi hoga, Sorry Priya" he talked to himself...
Saying this he came out of the changing room. "Par wo gussa ho gayi to!" he scratched his temple. "No Ram, You can not make her angry..Rang hi to lagana hai, sab lagaayenge apni wives ko, main bhi lagaa doonga, what's the big deal." He gave a winning smile !
"Chal ab is room ki condition theek kar.." he had no clue where to start from!
"Josh mein itni candles jalaa di tune Ram, ab sab saaf kar, agar Vikram Neha ne dekh liya na, kahan muh chupayega fir.."
The first thing that he picked up was Priya's sari which was lying on the floor. His eyes twinkled. He was again transported to the time when he shrugged off her sari unhooking her blouse. "Kal raat ki baat hi kuch aur thi.." he said this multiple times in his mind. the fabric of that soft clothing had the power of sending jitters to his body. It would take a lifetime for him to disparage the memories they created together.
With pleasure filled in his heart and soul, he went to keep the sari in the changing room. There, his eyes fell on his trademark white kurta, which was no longer an ordinary piece of garb. It's worth had increased for him, the sweet after memories of their love making had fettered upon that outfit. He moved his hand gently over the fabric of his kurta, his wife was wearing it a few minutes ago, the thought itself was priceless. He was already missing her presence around him.
He folded the kurta into a tidy shape and walked to the wardrobe to keep it there. "Now the kurta is never to be washed again, let it remain this way, reminding us, that we are one now, that we are inseparable. This will symbolize the best night of our life." He spoke to himself and grinned.
"This woman will make me a crackpot" he ran his fingers through his jet black hair while multiple thoughts, all at once, struck him.
He returned back to the room and started picking the half burnt candles and cleaning the wax. "Kya kya karna padta hai yaar, ye sab maine kiya tha! Baaki saare pati bhi aisi idiotic cheezein karte kya?"
His eyes fell on the larger than life portrait of Priya and his. Seeing her angelic face and that cherubic smile on her lips, he stopped for a while and kept on staring at the picture. It was those li'l many things that they did for each other, that had brought their relationship this far. The memories of their trip to Maharashtra - Gujarat border encircled him. How, fulfilling each other's weird wishes, looking after the needs, caring for one another were actually the steps that they took towards each other.
After bringing the majestic room back to it's usual order, he heaved a sigh of relief. "Ye to ho gaya! Now mission holi starts. Rang to main lagaaunga tumhe Mrs.Kapoor, par itni aasaani se nahi! Thoda tumhe tang to kar loon."
He rolled his tongue inside in his mouth while a mischievous smile covered his face. With a prank getting prepared in his head, he winked at her picture hung in the wall, and left the room to celebrate colors.
